Chicago area movers ignore damage complaint

Published on April 1, 2009

Hole in the wall

COMPLAINT: Rebecca MacKay, Bloomingdale, Ill.
"I hired Advanced Moving & Storage to relocate from a townhouse to a single-family home. The movers showed up almost an hour late, and they brought a truck that wasn't big enough, despite a thorough estimate and inventory done by the company.

"Their office basically told me that I was out of luck. Then, 10 minutes before the new owners were to do their walk-through, the movers put a huge hole in a bedroom wall. The office was once again unresponsive and unhelpful, and I had to pay the new owners for the damage at closing.

"There was damage to my furniture and new home as well. I have been waiting for months to get a response from Advanced Moving as to whether they are going to reimburse me for the damage or the wall-repair cost."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I would like to be reimbursed for the $300 I had to pay the buyers, as well as compensation for the damage done to our furniture and the door jamb at the new residence."

Rebecca:
Please go to protectyourmove.gov and look up the correct office for you to file a complaint at. I know if this was our company the problem would be resolved. Serious moving takes serious business's and we need to weed out the bad ones in the industry
