Boston plumbing company disputes tub repair complaint

Tub troubles

COMPLAINT: Rhonda Kelley, Boston
"Trethewey Brothers Inc. supposedly changed the cartridge in my bathtub. About two days after they installed it, it exploded. Another plumbing company came out and said it was a used cartridge — not new. Also, when [Trethewey Brothers] was here doing the repair, the job was supposed to be done in a half hour, but it took them three-and-a-half hours because they'd never worked with this system. I called to let them know of the faulty part, and they were rude and swore at me on the phone. They said they wouldn't refund any of the money."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want a full refund and an apology for the way they screamed at me when I asked if they knew how to work on the system."

RESPONSE: Susan Barham, administrator, Trethewey Brothers Inc.
"When the member called to complain about the cartridge, she refused to allow us to talk to the plumber who supposedly said it was a used part. She made threats and used profanity. We don't install used parts. After we installed the cartridge, we were back at her home six days later for an unrelated matter. She didn't complain about the cartridge then — why not?"
