Atlanta moving company denies claim of lost skirt

Published on August 1, 2009

Skirting issue

COMPLAINT: Sarah Wimberly, Atlanta

I hired Truck & I Moving & Storage Solutions to move a four-bedroom house. Afterward, I discovered that they lost a dress skirt during the move. It was packed, moved and unpacked by them in their wardrobe boxes. I filed a claim for replacement.

They denied the claim on the basis that it was packed by owner. When I told them that wasn't true, they then denied it on the basis that they looked for it and couldn't have lost it. I've been extremely disappointed in their complete lack of customer service.

DESIRED RESOLUTION: I'd like for them to search for and return my missing skirt or replace it.

RESPONSE: Yolanda Lopez, relocation consultant, Truck & I Moving & Storage Solutions

If for any reason one of our crew members helped her pack or unpack her clothes in wardrobe boxes, it was not on the paperwork, and we don't charge for that service. We are really sorry she is not happy, but we did a good job.

STATUS: Stalemate

Gasket grief

COMPLAINT: Mitchell Silvers, Lilburn, Ga.

My refrigerator gasket cracked and ripped. This component is covered by First American Home Buyers Protection Corp. They sent a mechanic to the house, who said the door needed to be replaced. He said he or the company would get back to me. The subcontractor said the gasket was damaged because of food spillage, not normal wear and tear, which is untrue. Because of the subcontractors's report, the home warranty company is refusing to make repairs.

DESIRED RESOLUTION: I want them to either repair the door gasket or replace the refrigerator.

RESPONSE: Audrey Soh, claims analyst, First American Home Buyers Protection Corp.

First American would like to apologize for any delays or inconvenience Mr. Silvers may have experienced during the handling of his claim. We value his opinions and concerns.

We independently hired another subcontractor to provide a second opinion about the failures of his kitchen refrigerator. The technician reported the gasket needed to be replaced, and we authorized the technician to make the repairs.

STATUS: Resolved
