Indianapolis insulation company resolves drywall complaint

Published on February 1, 2009

Blow out

COMPLAINT: Barbara Johnson, Indianapolis
"I hired Tranum Insulation to blow in insulation in two bedrooms. They filled the walls with so much insulation that the drywall split and damaged the wall. They took $50 off the bill but tried to blame me, claiming there wasn't a stud in the wall. I allowed myself to be convinced that maybe there wasn't a stud there and it was my fault, so I paid them. After they left, I realized I shouldn't have paid them because I saw the stud in the wall. I stopped payment on the check I wrote them because they need to take responsibility for their mistake."

DESIRED RESOLUTION:  "I want Tranum to knock $400 off what I owe them."

RESPONSE: Robert Tranum, owner, Tranum Insulation
"Before we began, I told the member that her walls already had fiberglass insulation but she said to go ahead with the job. After we finished, she showed me the busted spot. The drywall had been nailed and I explained to her that a poor drywall job wasn't my responsibility. I offered her $50 off the stated price, to which she agreed and wrote a $400 check. A few days later, she called to say that she stopped payment on the check. She wanted me to come to her house and see if I could personally fix the problem. I told her that our company doesn't work on drywall. I asked if she had gotten any estimates and she hadn't. A few days later, I left her a message with the number for a drywaller I recommended. I haven't received a response from her."

STATUS: Resolved
Editor's Note: Johnson informed Angie's List she accepted Tranum's offer of 'no balance due' and considers the matter closed.

Half-done in the sun

COMPLAINT: Shane and Martha Harrington, Indianapolis
"Snow leaked through our sunroom's roof, damaging the carpet and subfloor. We hired Vore & Associates Inc. to repair the roof and the floor. They subcontracted the roofing but they were supposed to repair the carpet and flooring. The subcontractor repaired the roof and we confirmed they were paid their $5,100 fee. However, Vore & Associates still has the remaining $4,900 balance from our insurance company. It's been eight months and they haven't made any repairs to the carpet or flooring. We've been contacting them for months and they promise us they'll come, but they never show up."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "We want them to complete the job or refund the extra money."

STATUS: Penalty Box
