Flooring fiasco
COMPLAINT: Michael Zuflacht, San Antonio
"Aguayo Remodeling installed bamboo flooring in my kitchen, hallway and game room. They also painted the trim work inside the house. They said to put bamboo flooring down they needed $5,000 to purchase materials and pay for labor. At various times throughout the job, I pointed out gaps that were appearing in the flooring. Manuel Aguayo, the owner, said it would be fine and would be fixed upon completion of the project. He suggested I paint the trim because it didn't match the floor and asked for another $5,600 to purchase materials.
"When they painted the trim, not only did they use latex paint on top of oil-based paint, but I found fingerprints in the paint job. Then he said he wanted $7,000 for materials and labor for the paint job! I took Manuel on a tour of the house to show him that work was still incomplete and he grabbed his saw and walked out. I had asked for receipts to prove his purchases but he kept forgetting them. He finally gave me a receipt for the entirety of the project for $10,600, but this isn't what I wanted. I wanted receipts showing they had purchased materials."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want the $10,600 refunded."
RESPONSE: Manuel Aguayo, owner, Aguayo Remodeling
"I was paid the agreed price of $10,600 in regards to the flooring, which included labor and materials. I have receipts to verify the costs for my expenses. In regards to the painting of the interior trim, I've yet to get paid for that job.
"Upon my arrival to complete the job, I came upon a very aggressive and disgruntled member. He informed me he didn't want me or my workers on his property. Therefore, I was unable to complete the job as requested."
