Remodeling company accused of causing water damage
Published on February 1, 2010
COMPLAINT: Danny Power, Avon, Mass.
"Columbus Builders Inc. remodeled my bathroom, adding a new shower, toilet, sink, medicine cabinet, floor tiles and trim. They arrived when they said they would, which was the only good thing about the job.
"When demolition of the bathroom took place, there was dust everywhere. When moving the debris outside, they left nails, screws and plaster dust all over my driveway.
"When the two-week job was done, I had to clean the debris, cigarette butts and fast food wrappers. After my first shower, there was water all over the floor. The shower door and interlocking walls were not installed properly.
"The floor tile was never siliconed where the shower base meets it. As a result, water was all over my basement floor, ruining the drop ceiling and insulation.
"I had to get someone else to fix the shower and drop ceiling. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, but Columbus Builders never responded to their letters.
"A couple of weeks ago, my sink leaked. I was informed that a piece was broken underneath the sink and was held together with electrical tape. It was a miracle that it had lasted three months before it finally broke.
"This leak also caused a brown water stain on the brand new drop ceiling in the basement."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "$1,500 would be barely acceptable."
STATUS: Penalty Box
