Bathroom brouhaha
COMPLAINT: Pam Travis, Germantown, Tenn.
"I hired Roger Keune Handyman Services to install a new fixture and float my bathroom's walls so I could have them repainted. The project started out reasonable but I was unhappy with his work. It took him two weeks to float the walls. He also went through the wall when he was installing a light fixture. He charged me $300 extra that he didn't itemize on my receipt. I told him that I want the $300 back to get these problems fixed."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want a $300 refund to take care of redoing the work."
RESPONSE: Roger Keune, owner, Roger Keune Handyman Services
"The member asked for an estimate to replace a valve and faucet, strip ceiling texture, refloat walls and install a light fixture and crown molding. Her reaction to my first price was, 'That's too much.' She called me back later and asked if I could cut that price. We agreed to eliminate the crown molding, which reduced the price by $300. She said, 'All right, do the job.' When I took the original light fixture off, there were three holes where there should have been one, all with illegal wiring. When I told her this, she covered her ears so she couldn't hear.
"I told her I had to rewire all three openings to one box. She asked how much it'd cost, I said it added the $300 I'd taken off back into the job. I added no extra charges. She owes me money and says she won't pay. As far as I'm concerned, she already has the $300 she says I owe her. I've been in this business almost 40 years and have dealt with thousands of customers. If she offered me a million dollars to work for her, I'd refuse and stay home."
