Wishmakers puts Navy vet back in driver's seat

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — After serving his country for 16 years, Greg Fedorowicz  never thought he would be the one in need of help. The 48-year-old Navy veteran was honorably discharged due to a severe shoulder injury — an injury, along with other medical complications, that keeps him from holding a civilian job.

Without employment and in jeopardy of losing his home, Fedorowicz turned to the Wishmakers program for help. His 1992 Mercury Grand Marquis, which was donated to him a couple of years ago, stopped running. He feared it needed a new transmission.

“I had written letters upon letters to various organizations and was thrilled when I got the call from Angie’s List,” Fedorowicz said.

Angie’s List enlisted local companies to volunteer their services. Coggin Ford Lincoln Mercury diagnosed the car and donated all parts for the repair, while Stan’s Transmission in Daytona donated the labor.

“My payment comes in the form of knowing that I was able to help someone in need,” said Stan’s Transmission owner Robert Mitchell.

Additionally, Liberty Towing provided tows to and from both service centers. Thanks to these companies, Fedorowicz is once again on a roll.

“Greg has been reaching out for help for quite awhile, I’m just happy that we were able to lend him the helping hand he needed to put him back in the driver’s seat — literally,” said Angie Hicks, founder of Angie’s List.

Wishmakers is a way for Angie’s List to give back to the communities it serves. Since 2004, Angie’s List has partnered with highly rated service providers to give a helping hand to people across the country.
